A '':Museum'' is an institution that cares for (conserves) a collection of artefacts and other objects of artistic, cultural, historical or scientific importance.

''The Computer Museums'' in specific are dedicated to preserving and presenting the stories and artefacts of the information and digital age. These Computer Museums are available for the public viewing through permanent or temporary exhibits. Some of the most attended Computer Museums include Computer History Museum in California, Donggurn Science & Technology Museum in China, The National Museum of Computing in England, Miraikan National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Japan and Virtual Computer Museum in Russia.
== Computer History Museum in ''California'' ==
The (Computer History Museum ) has the largest collection of computing artefacts with more that 100000 containing computer hardware and software, documentation, photographs and moving pictures, 75% of them being available online it is located since 1996 in Mountain View, California, USA(). Its purpose is to keep alive the memory of old computers and to research the impact of computing evolution on society.


Considering the wide variety of computing items stored in the museum, its main purpose is to create a connection between past computers and present innovations. The First 2000 Years of Computing is the centre piece of the museum, which approaches major aspects of computing history. From Punched Cards to the Web, this exhibition contains all the steps of the evolution, such as Analog Computers, Mainframe Computers, Minicomputers, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Games and Mobile Computing().


Other important exhibitions of the museum are The Silicon Engine, which tells the story of Semiconductors in Computing History, Mastering the Game, which shows how Computer Chess has been developed in time, Microprocessors, which reveals the first 25 years of their development and Internet History, which displays the evolution and propagation of the internet in second half of the 20th Century().
